This pattern is Kwik Sew 3933 ... a close fitting pull over top with a deep V-neckline - read the pattern, Judith!!!
Deep V-neckline = plunging!
Not work suitable at all. So I will only be wearing this top with a little cammi underneath. But I do think a cammi does work OK. And extra warmth in our approaching winter won't be such a bad thing.
The edges around the neckline aren't too bad for my first try with the CoverPro. The bonus is that I was able to eliminate the fiddly little facing piece that came with the pattern. Instead I just folded and sewed ...
The shoulder seam has a few gathers on each side at the front. Easily this could be pleated for a more streamlined look. Sometimes gathers look a little informal to me. Back is plain - it is meant to have a centre back seam but I choose just to lay the pattern on the fold and cut it as one. There is plenty of shaping happening from the side seams to suit my body shape.
The gathers at the side are very slimming and body friendly. Coupled with the uplifting scooped front hemline this top is quite flattering.
This makes top #3 in Faye's 2013 Essential Top Sew-A-Long -
Next up I am going back to making a shirt - a lovely crisp white shirt with grey flowers ... something I can put my new sleeve board to work with ...
And following on from all of your supportive comments about my sleeve board, the ham and sleeve roll will be next on my 'must-have' list!
I like the look of it, and those bound edges look great from here :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great looking top, I like the look of the cami underneath.
ReplyDeleteOoh - I LOVE this top - so much so that I checked out the pattern after reading your post. The pattern picture is certainly not as good as your one. Loving your fabric too.
ReplyDeleteLoving the hemline on it. Isn't a coverstitch machine fab? I just used mine to hem a jacket I am trying to sew. It kind of gathered in all the extra fabric that a curved seam produces - great finish.
I may have to try this pattern - your top is so lovely.
Your new top looks great, and I like the white cami effect. Can't wait to see the grey/white shirt. I didn't know what Coverpro is, so I googled it but still unsure. Is it an overlocker?
ReplyDeleteI really like this top. Yes the neckline is too low for it to be worn alone but it looks great with the cami under it. The shape looks as though it is very flattering.
ReplyDeleteI love wrap tops they are so flattering, I made the Vogue 8151 I find the neckline just right and dont need to wear a camisole.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great top and wearing a cami underneath is fine. Gotta get motivated and finish a top I started last week ...
ReplyDeleteGood Morning! (UK time :D)
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and, I believe, a v-neck wrap top is ALWAYS flattering.
Beautifully sewed

Lovely Judith, it looks so pretty with the cami underneath.
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE fan of asymmetrical and wrap-style garments, so I love your top by default. I think the addition of the cami gives interest, and I'm sure it looks lovely on you.
ReplyDeleteLove your blouse, and I think the cami makes it even prettier..
ReplyDeleteHappy sewing. Look forward to seeing the shirt [love the fabric]
Love the blouse and it will look great with a cami. Great addition to the fall wardrobe. Can't wait to see your next blouse.
ReplyDeleteThis is another great top that should get lots of wear. I like it with the cami. You are sewing up a storm!! From the pictures, your CoverPro stitching looks professional. You'll love the ham and sleeve roll.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Lovely! It really looks perfect with the cami, and that necklace just finishes it off so well. Great job with your cover stitch!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very lovely top, and looks as though it would be figure flattering.
ReplyDeleteIt does look lovely on the mannequin, and I'm betting it looks smashing on you too.....but I hear you on the 'jury is out' comment. I've yet to make a wrap style anything. I just have a feeling I would never wear it. I suppose some snoop shopping would be in order, but I haven't tried anything on in a clothing store for so many months I can't remember the last time!
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I do hope you get a lot of wear from your wraps :) Lovely sewing, as always!
Lovely indeed. I never noticed this KS pattern. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI really like the top and I think the white cami really sets it off.
ReplyDeleteVery nice top. Love that pattern!
ReplyDeleteI think it is lovely. I know ideally you wouldn't have a cami, but it looks very nice with it. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely top. I've made this pattern and found it v-e-r-y close fitting and decided against making another, but having seen your top, think I will give a second try.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and with the cami, entirely modest. I love wrap styles, but also fiddle a bit when wearing them.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great looking top and looks lovely with the cami under it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Cammi looks nice, breaks up the pattern a bit. 3 tops! I have two finished but cannot seem to get out the camera and get with the program! I'm blaming the weather...
ReplyDeletep.s. I loooove my ham and seam roll. Felt ridiculous spending so much on fabric and stuffing, but am so glad I did! I think you are super smart to have the sleeve board.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely top Judith, and the cami actually looks nice with it. Might not be what you wanted, but it looks great. A bit of extra warmth in winter as well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great top Judith! I think the fabric is great and I love the styling with the necklace. It's funny...your looks better than the pattern jacket pic. I would pass it up at the fabric store!
ReplyDeleteHi Judith I just wanted to let you know I've nominated you for the One Lovely Blog/Very Inspiring Blogger award. My apologies if you have received it before, but I love you blog!
ReplyDeleteLovely wrap top and the adjustment for that neckline is quite easy.
ReplyDeleteI really really like this top!
ReplyDeleteI really like this top, but since I carry a bit of .... ahem .... baggage around the middle, I am looking for a crossover that doesn't cling. Quite possibly an impossible quest. Thank you for visiting my humble little blog. I would love to be as prolific as you are.
