Major Storms and Tornado's in Australia!!! WHAT!!!

One minute I am whining about the heat here in Queensland, melting away in my own pool of sweat. Well now for the latest update... the weather since then has been rainy, clouds, storms, rain and ...wait for it...TORNADO'S!!!

A Tornado in Queensland, is so unheard of! Cyclones - yes, but Tornado's - no way! Just a few years back we had unmentionable floods that took the lives of people so unexpectedly just an hour or so from where I live.

And again today, the TV and Radio stations have been broadcasting alerts up and down the coastline ensuring everyone is ready to evacuate on time.

I am just minutes from the bay and the winds and rain have been extremely strong all day.

Just as well I am holed up in my little sewing cave, oblivious to all the winds and rain outside...that is until the electricity went out...

  1. Isn't it amazing, what a turnaround in the weather. We have a flood at the bottom of our street, where the grass was dry and dead a week ago. What will tomorrow bring?

  3. Isn't it atrocious! I prefer stinking heat to this! My sister also lost power; also near the bay. Supposed to end by Tuesday - so that will be sunny weather but with the waters still flowing. I heard in the ABC Radio news this morning about the floods throughout the state and then also a bush fire still raging somewhere else in this glorious state! What a country of extremes all at the same time!

    1. Fingers crossed for Tuesday - as all the schools go back then. Last year the first day back at school was cancelled due to floods...

  5. I've been listening to this unfold all day on my little sewing room radio. Surprisingly they didn't report the catastrophe of you losing power to your sewing machine!! Jokes aside, it sounds pretty bad. Stay safe x

  11. Keep safe and prepared to evacuate if necessary. We get winds but never what you are experiencing. Have travelled in 100 km winds in northern BC and people whine if it gets to 60 kms here in our central BC community.

  13. As long as you follow the precautions, you'll be fine. In Kansas tornadoes are a fact of life, but if you aren't used to them, they can seem very scary. Stay safe! :-)

  15. Flooding, tornadoes and power outages are no fun and scary to boot! Unfortunately, they are a fairly regular occurrence around here. Be safe!

PS: That's a heck of a way to get a cool down.

  21. Try to keep dry. My sister on the GC just sent me a pxt of her pool (which WAS empty due to maintenance and repair) now half full. I txted her back - that she should start collecting animals as they have a boat! Fingers crossed that it will end soon.

  22. oh dear Judith, I hope you don't get any damage - fingers crossed for you and stay safe - seems the weather is crazy the world round.

  23. Stay safe Judith and here's hoping the damage isn't too severe. We have our home on the Gold Coast and our tenants just phoned us this morning to let us know some trees have fallen in the yard but thankfully they've only damaged the pool fencing and no one was hurt. Our house is at Oxenford just near Movie World and she said that it looks like they might have to evacuate people in Coomera... I lived on the Gold Coast for 30 years and never heard of an evacuation in that area. We saw some pictures of the flood waters up on Tamborine Mountain and how cow... I wouldn't like to be up there in this weather. Anyway hope you get to stay safe and enjoy some fun in your sewing cave while all this wild crazy weather is going on around you.
