How cool and creative is that!!! Susan @ Living with Punks is one almighty inspirational OCD/ADD crafter who just has 'the knack' at whipping up the most amazing things in her life. And she gives a step-by-step tutorial on how to make these up - just how good hearted is this lovely young lady!
These just look so clean, and striking, and I have always been memorised by the rows and rows of coloured threads, zippers and shiny buttons in fabric stores. So, off to IKEA for the frames, hunt the stash for what I had (as if there was any need to tip-toe down to the Lincraft sale) and lookie at what I made...
Shadow box frames are from IKEA, as is the wall mounted shelf ...
Threads are just my favourite colours ... so glad I always buy extra at the sales ...
So, tell me creative bloggie friends, what do you put on display in your little sewing cave - contemporary or antique, colourful or monochromatic, memory maker or must-have item ???
Love your artwork! Typo have the best metre ruler I've ever seen. It folds up to become about 4" long. Fabulous! I can keep it in my travel sewing box and it's very handy. $4.95 I think. Barg! Love those sorts of shops....and ikea of course!
ReplyDeleteThese shops are just great to get lost in...a slow prowl around and plenty of time is always needed. Must look for that ruler...J
DeleteI love this idea! I don't have much in the way of decor in my sewing room because I'm still trying to figure out new places to hide the stash.
ReplyDeleteI am only just starting out at revamping and decoration my room, picking fav colours and making it more liveable...stash is still hiding away from hubby's eyes...J
DeleteHow cool is that - love what you have done. I haven't decorated at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, BeaJay! It is my first attempt at decorating the sewing area...J
DeleteSo very cool! Fabulous.
ReplyDelete...and it was fun to do...but back to sewing now...J
DeleteNice job Judith. I like what you've created. Nice additions to your sewing room.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Faye!
DeleteJudith, these are adorable.. Love the J made with all the adorable buttons.. [and my name is Judy, so I can see what a J will look like,ha].
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white dot fabric behind it too.
We don't have an ikea store close to me.. So, I am thinking Hubby could make me some shadow boxes [since he makes picture frames??? we will see???]
I see some of these being made in my future..just so cute, thank you for sharing.
Hey, another Judy!!! If hubby whipped them up for you, you could specify the exact size - IKEA only had set sizes to work with!
DeleteJudith.. your so right.. Different sizes.. I am liking that idea.. Now... motivating hubby to like my idea.hahahha [I just bet, I can talk him into it..]
DeleteDoes yours have glass over them???
You know exactly how to twist hubby!!! Yes, there is glass over each frame, so I had to make sure it was spotlessly clean before sealing the back on...
DeleteThat looks great - love your colour combination. I have a display of paper doll fashion books, cross-stitch of Liberty in London. A shelf of Amish themed bits from Pennsylvania, framed pic of Dior New Look model, some antique wooden spools, a china sewing machine tea pot, thimble collection ..... in other words, Way Too Much!!
ReplyDeleteI love your thimble collection that you just posted about - don't ever think again of giving them away. Your sewing room must just be a beautiful little haven to escape into...
DeleteLove your decorations and I am so envious as I have lime rendered walls and can only hang things from picture rails!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sharon! Lime rendered walls would be a challenge to hang things from...
DeleteFantastic Judith - really gorgeous! I love what you've done - I have no wall space but am looking into the days that I can expand into a private room (I do have a dedicated space) . . . . Great job, again.
ReplyDeleteI guess if I did have the space I would probably want to have a dream board or inspiration board of some kind . . .
An inspiration board would be great to have - it would get filled up very, very quickly....J
DeleteOMG Judith... you just tickled my fancy too! What a clever idea... I'd love something like this on my wall. At the moment there's nothing except two cork boards that I pin projects and ideas... or things I'm working on. This idea is so much more appealing and really adds that special touch. Love it!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris! You will have to give them a go - I need to grab a cork board next...J
DeleteThey are just too cute. I can just imagine a sign on the glass saying 'in case of emergency, break glass'!
ReplyDeleteI like your thinking!!!
DeleteJealousy, thy name is button collections! I love your artwork. My sewing room decor consists of a clock.
ReplyDeleteI know - buttons are just so 'collectable'...
DeleteHi Judith, I found you on Sew Many Ways and I just love getting to know my fellow Brisbane bloggers so I will be following you from now on. I just love the framed art that you put together.
ReplyDeleteCath @ Bits 'n Bobs
Well, a big hello to you! Us Brisbane bloggers seem few and far between - off to have a peek around your blog...J
DeleteThese are fantastic! I am totally making a rainbow set for my sewing room...love it!
ReplyDeleteA rainbow set - can't wait to see them...J
DeleteThese are very clever. My sewing desk is situated in our bedroom. I have a shelf above with vintage and modern tins which I store haberdasheries in. I would like a pinboard for inspiration also my next project pinned on it to spur me on.
ReplyDeleteI just love the look of tins! The vintage are so irreplaceable...J
DeleteIndeed these are cute and clever! Knowing me, though, I would be too tempted to take the art apart if I run out of thread or need a zipper. =) After a while, I'd have nothing but empty shadow boxes. LOL
ReplyDeleteIn the room where my machines are, I have all types of stuff on the walls: pictures from old calendars, pieces of printed upholstery, and post cards. My walls are a hodgepodge of 'hey, this is kind of pretty' stuff. =)
I love this!
ReplyDeleteI like your rendition of your favourite colours!
I'm thinking of a customized version of the panatone colours of the year...
... still sewing at the dining room table...
Brenda
Cute, cute, cute. I might just have to do them for my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteAll of these are super- colourful and still full of memories of all the things you've sewed in these colours. I'm so disorganised that I would end up having to dismantle the frames to get at the matching zip and thread!!! The buttons are particularly impressive.
ReplyDeleteThose are really cool, I love the threads. I don't have much on display, since I don't have much space. But I do have my Hobbit lego's on a little shelf to keep me company!
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable, and I am sure you can count it as stash busting, but I am with Ruth, I would probably end up having to break into them to get a much needed zip or thread.
ReplyDeleteSadly my sewing room is in the converted loft space and I don't really have any flat walls to hang anything on. This would have to be a project that gets put on hold until I have a standard room + my room is nowhere near as neat and tidy as yours lol.
This is awesome! My problem would be if I ran out of thread and the one on the frame happened to be the right colour... it would get sabotaged!!
ReplyDeleteHi Judith and thanks for the lovely compliment on my coat.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing your Awesome art work, I looked around my sewing room and realizing that's what's missing... artwork. Must get to AC Moore for frames... thanks for the inspiration.
Ahh that looks gorgeous, I may have to steal some ideas:)
ReplyDeleteCute! and I like your colour scheme. I don't know if I would have the will power to not puck those reels of thread off the wall to use them though! My "artwork" consists of pictures of inspiring clothes, ripped out of newspapers and blu-tacked onto the wall... lol.
ReplyDeleteOh, my God! That is so inspiring in your sewing room ... I especially love the picture with buttons!
ReplyDeleteJust love your ideas and creations! My sewing room is home to my family photo galleries, momentos and art from my travels, and whimsies that mean a lot to me.
ReplyDeleteThat zipper shadowbox seriously has my name on it. Very very cool!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your sewing room
