Join the January Jungle...

hosted by PrttynPink
in praise of textile beasties!

Animal prints are so hot right now (when have they never been in style?) I've always loved the look of animal print fabric, but I have never quite figured out exactly how to incorporate it into my wardrobe, until one of my latest skirts.
But from reptile to cheetah, from accessories to clothing, there seems lots of ways to add a little animal antics into the wardrobe and get noticed.

So if you want to have a month of walking on the wild side head over to

and have some fun...there is also tons of tiny giveaways and general feral blog mayhem!!!

And just for a touch of bizarre fun, here is my daughters foot with a snake skin we just found in the backyard - she is thinking of a new pair of summer slingbacks!!!
The snakeskin belongs to a naked Carpet Python, a very familiar snake in my local parts. These little lovelies can grow up to 3.5m (about 11 feet) so maybe I can get a matching belt, or bag, one day to match the summer slingbacks...

  1. Living in a land that has no snakes - this is just weird to me but your daughter definitely has style and resourcefulness.

  2. Oh my that photo gives me the heeby jeebies - unfortunately we get tiger snakes and red bellied blacks around here. Perhaps I should join in - I remember that I have one piece of animal print in my stash.

    1. Ooohh, yes, we get the red bellies, as well as the Eastern Browns, but no Tigers (thankfully). Wouldn't the Red Belly make a beautiful...

  3. *Shudders* We get a lot of tiger and brown snakes down here as well, haven't seen any since I've lived in town though - thank goodness! I am not a snake fan, the tiger snakes were so aggressive where I grew up that they used to attack the farm utes! (A side story here: My dad grew up in a corrugated iron shack that had dirt floors. My Grandma used to sweep the dirt floor each day so they could see the snake tracks if one got inside!)

    1. A shirt would be great - easy to mix and match with a plain skirt or pants, or under a jacket. Now you have me thinking as well...

  6. Feral blog mayhem? Hah! Nice. Real-live (or used to be live) snake skin? Not so much. Ewwwwww!

I like animal prints in small doses. I don't think I'll join Jungle January, but I'll observe with great interest. =)

  7. I don't really do animal prints but that photo is a beauty! I lived in NZ for a year and I never got over walking with trepidation through long grass. My boyfriend would yell out "No snakes here!" ... you can take the girl out of Oz but you can't take the Oz out of the girl as they say!

    1. You still have the Oz in you, humour and all. Don't think I could ever walk through long grass, even if it has been given the 'all-clear'...

  8. She needs to follow that snake around long enough to get a matching pair! What a sense of style!
Love that skirt fabric, nice mix without looking confused!

  9. How interesting and it would be fun to incorporate that skin into something. We have diamond back and timber rattle snakes but I am not going to ask one for their shed.

    1. There must be some creative people out there who could use this skin in an artistic way. A quick wrap around the foot was as far as we went...

    1. In the house would see me packing my bags and running. You poor thing, the nightmares would have been dreadful at such a young age - I guess no pet snakes for you...

  12. Eek - real live snakes - no thanks. But I do like your daughter's imagination.

I am looking forward to Jungle January too. Plans are afoot (but not for snake skin shoes - although I do have real fish skin shoes!!)

  13. I think we live in your area of brissy, and on the 28th my husband had to move a 3 metre carpet snake from our verandah. Lucky they are not poisonous ! No harm to the snake , relocated to the bush behind our home:)

  14. Your daughter has a great idea for sandals, but I am very happy in my very suburban yard with no snakes in sight.

Love animal print, but think I used up my last piece with the twin set.

  17. Eeeww snakes. You know I have lived in Brissie for 11 years and still haven't seen one yet and that's how I would like it to stay! Ick!
I think it could make a great handbag if you could catch it ;-)
