2 new shirts for guys ...

... it's nearly Spring Down Under, which means time to get ready for long sunny days, and  restock the basic casual shirts for the two males in my household!

First off is another Vogue 8759 for my son. His request was for it to be trendy, no pocket, have a personal look, and be easy to wear. Fabric is from Spotlight, a light Japanese Lawn that is just perfect for a one-season shirt. For this shirt I used a navy lawn for the inside back yoke, inside neck, collar under, as well as the front plackets. The sleeves, collar and back yoke are all put together with the wrong side of the fabric outermost - apparently an 'in-season' trend in the shops! I did bring the front yoke section forward again, by about 5cm so that the yoke seam wasn't sitting right on the shoulder - this is just a personal preference of mine. So another winner for the son in the household!

Next up is KwikSew 3422 for the Hubby! Not as fitted in the body, but still a good shape to it anyway. I used View B, but with the collar from View A (as it had a collar stand which I prefer.) Again I used a contrast colour for the yoke, placket and collar components - just because I can! And I added in a touch of a fancy looking pocket. Totally useless to put anything in, but I enjoyed sewing it.
Both guys have put in orders for their next shirts - but they will be at the end of my long selfish 'me' list of sewing!

  1. Wow - you mean my natural sewing errors of sewing sleeves inside out is actually a trend now - bet I started it!!

Nice shirts with lovely finishing touches.

Still too cold for me to think about Spring weather.

  3. Two smart looking and very stylish shirts! That is funny about the inside out trend! I used an eco pieced shirting fabric recently (made from old shirts I think) and some sections were intentionally stitched back-to-front... I'd thought it was arty, but fun to know its on-trend too!! I like the muted look it gives to the shirt yoke and sleeves.

  4. I had no idea about the inside out look - obviously not paying enough attention. The shirts look great, beautifully made, and I'll bet the men in your life love having something totally individual.

  5. Sometimes I put my clothes on inside out by mistake - does that count? Seriously, love both of these shirts - both nicely made. Have not yet made my DH a shirt, but yours looks so super, I think I will have to...one day!

  6. Nice shirts... but really I need to get out more! I haven't seen the inside out look either. My son is too young but I may show him and he may go for it! Judith did you get to the sale? I just saw in my comments that I said I'd let you know when I was going and I forgot. I wasn't going to go but got roped in by a friend who didn't know the way. I didn't need any fabric at all. Oh well.

  7. Those are beautiful shirts! Your husband and son are quite lucky. My husband only wears t-shirts, so the only thing I can make for him are quilts and pillowcases.

  8. Very nice shirts for your hubby and son. My plan is to do the contrast on shirts for my hubby as I like the look.

  9. Nice shirts. I especially love your son's with the different fabric.
I have to do a Sure Fit draft for my not standard sized husband before I can make him any shirts! Not holding my breath! LOL

  17. Excellent looking shirts, with some lovely personal details. I'm working on a men's Jalie shirt and needed some motivation to push past the interfacing stage!
