...a new skirt to our group! Let me introduce to you "Miss Vine Leaf".
Now why will she make such a good friend, I hear you ask ... well ... whilst she may not share every detail of her style in exactly the same way as the first 2, she does present an accurate picture of who she is. She is, I am proud to say, another offspring of McCall's 5523!
Miss Vine Leaf is fun, unique and interesting. OK, this is a given in any new friendship, but there is a lot to be said about shared interests...does the fabric look familiar???
Yes, I said that there was way too much fabric for the dress, so a new friend was born into a skirt. And this new friend is on the same page as me, she didn't try to change me or drag me into an unknown sewing territory ...
... beautifully behaved pleats! I do soooo love the crispness of pleats.
Now while the dress didn't warrant lining, this lovely little skirt did deserve a little help in holding herself together. So a simple light bit of support lining was in order - nothing fancy for this girl, just some cool breathable black cotton will do the job.
And every girl loves a little splash of surprise, so this skirt was the lucky receiver of deep red bias tape to just finish her off nicely. We all need a little finishing off before heading out, right???
So welcome to the group, little Miss Vine Leaf, hope you enjoy hanging out with us...
And what is this ... a blank space in the group!!! Don't tell me there is another ready to jump on a coathanger in the near (yes, very near) future! Someone needs to lock this pattern away!
Is there anyone out there who also has loved a pattern to near-death (anyone, please)???
Your skirts are lovely. I have Vogue 1247 that I have lengthened the skirt pattern and made five versions!
ReplyDelete5 versions!!! I need to get sewing...J
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful skirt. The fabric is a perfect match as it the hint of colour on the inside. Can't wait to see Number Four.
ReplyDeleteNumber 4 is a little shy, and taking a while longer to come out and play. That, and I have a few requests from family for PJ's, and shirts, and...
DeleteWow Judith, I forgot how prolific you are during the summer holidays. Love all of your skirts. Such a versatile pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam! Yes I do love my school holidays at this time of year - hubby back at work, kids off on sport trips, and poor little me stuck at home, with just my scissors and sewing machine for company...heaven!!!
DeleteMiss Vine Leaf is gorgeous and I'm sure she'll love her new friends as much as they will love welcoming her into the clan LOL. I love the touch of red.... that is sooo cute and I'm sure she loves it too and it makes her feel real special. Looking forward to seeing the next addition to the group... mmmm I wonder what it will be?
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris! Next addition is a little more on the stripey summery side, a bit of 'cool, calm and collected' ...
DeleteI can't believe you got a skirt and dress out of that length of fabric! The skirt looks great, love the bias trim and the pleating at the back, looks lovely and crisp in the linen.
ReplyDeleteI have my favourite patterns too, made the Burda Bella Jeans about 6 times now and the V8751 pants about 4 or 5 times too! Hey, if it works why not reuse it!
I know! Am I the fabric Scrooge or what!!!
DeleteAnother gorgeous skirt and they all look so different, keep going is all I can say.
ReplyDeleteI'm a going, I'm a going...
DeleteI love this! I particularly appreciate the v-shape above the pleats - such a nice touch! And what do you mean when you say the skirt needed a lining to hold itself together - was this for a smoother look or because the fabric needed a boost in body?
ReplyDeleteThe v-shape is a lovely touch, a bit different from the typical straight-across-the-top pleat look. And I lined it for the smoother look - beats going to the gym!!!
DeleteHi Judith, I've made this pattern twice, both times with the double ruffle, and its a great pattern... plain from the front and party at the back LOL. Your versions are all lovely and you are clearly on a roll!! Looking forward to meeting the 'shy one' :)
ReplyDeleteWelllllll, the shy one is a different view, one not tried yet. So not not View A, and not B, not C, but ...
DeleteThere is something to be said about a good pattern that you know well. I really love the fabric. Love the pop of red on the inside.
ReplyDeleteI am only just starting to add the 'pops' of colour to my sewing - stepping outside the old comfort zone...
DeleteOh what a lovely skirt! Nice touches all around, but I love the splash of red. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI have a kwik sew skirt pattern that I've made at least a dozen times. If it fits and you love it - why not continue making it? Each version looks different and I would guess that nobody would guess you were wearing the same pattern day in and day out. g
At work all I seem to have is splashes of paint, and kiddy goop on me, so I don't think what I am wearing is ever noticed!!!
DeleteThis is such a great pattern and Miss Vine Leaf is a lovely addition to the family.
ReplyDeleteWell, thankyou for welcoming her aboard! She will have a little sister in a few days (fingers crossed)...
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, and do enjoy the meetup in Sydney - Champagne and sewing shopping, just pure heaven!!!
DeleteI have to admit to loving all my patterns dearly - I know, call me crazy but that is just the way I am!
ReplyDeleteGreat skirts - looking forward to meeting the newcomer!!
Loving your patterns!!! You have just nailed an entire 6PAC!!! Time for you to take a quick breath...
Deleteanother great addition to your skirt attention and even better that you got it out of left-over fabric. I have this pattern in my stash and am seriously thinking of running up one of the versions to go with my blouse and jacket.
ReplyDeleteA new skirt to wear with the lovely silk blouse you just made - why not!!!
DeleteLove the bold print on your skirt!
ReplyDeleteOhhh, thanks Shannon!!!
DeleteObviously very wearable and adored skirts - great fabrics but they each look different. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ruth! I do like to try something different, even if it is only just different fabric...what a great excuse to pick up some more!
DeleteWhat a lovely skirt! and I really like how you went the extra mile to finish off the insides to perfection too :)
ReplyDeleteGuess it would be too hot to wear even this skirt over 'your side' at the moment! Enjoy splashing in the pool...
DeleteYour skirt is beautiful! I love the pops of color, too. You're on a roll!
ReplyDeleteVery Nice! I have this pattern and have not tried it yet. Now I think I should move it up in the queue!
ReplyDelete"Miss Vine Leaf" is di-vine-ly gorgeous, Judith! Best wishes for the new year!
ReplyDeleteLove it! The inside finish is divine :) Number 4 is clearly a little shy- should we lure her out with the promise of some bias binding or the like? ;)
ReplyDeletePerfect skirt. I just love the fabric.. so pretty... And I love a pattern that is so wonderful, you use it over and over..
ReplyDeleteI did the colette violet blouse a bunch..Just a wonderful shirt.. I need to get that skirt pattern you are using.Looks really pretty.
Happy sewing
Judith - that skirt is awesome. Love it. Again great fabric - I am going to have to stalk Spotties. The skirt is very classic and lovely.
ReplyDeleteObviously a great pattern ! Looks like you had lots of fun finishing the insides as well.
ReplyDeleteMiss Vine Leaf is so cute! Don't you just love finding a good skirt pattern?!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love a high yield pattern!
ReplyDeleteI have a pattern that I love! It is for my baby's PJ's, New Look 6525.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric form your dress, and now a skirt.
Lovely new skirt and TNT patterns, as I am learning, are The Business! Long live the school holidays particularly if it means getting into the sewing groove.
ReplyDeleteHi Judith, It's been a pleasure to read a number of your posts. I chose this one to comment on because I am smitten with that glorious leaf fabric. I also really appreciate your attention to detail...the red bias tape is like a cheeky little secret. Love it! I think it's those little extras that make sewing garments an art. I am just toying with really getting on the bandwagon and sewing some more clothing; thanks for the positive feedback you left for me.
ReplyDeleteSue xo
Your vine leaf skirt is beautifully done. I must ask about the orange sleeveless blouse with the ruffles along the neckline. I love it...did you make that too? If so, please tell me which pattern you used. :)
