I, and several others, have showcased McCall's 6436 over the past few months, so my blurb won't be too detailed this time.
First off, Pdiddly at P'thrifty sewing blog made the same shirt with a black placket - design steal #1. This idea just made the shirt colours pop!

Just love the fabric - it is a Wenzel Australia fabric with a beautiful cool feel to it.
Anyways, I have pinched Suzy's idea of a bit of colour popping by pulling out the jade colour in my fabric, and using it in the collar underside...
Not that obvious when I am wearing it, but if I ever get swept away in a gust of wind, and my collar flips up, well, colour popping I will be doing...
My next design-pinching idea has come from Suzy at Suzy Bee Sews. Suzy must have the biggest stash of funky fun lining fabrics that she pops inside most of the outfits she whips up...
Fun facing inside one of her latest pairs of pants, and the lining of a fantastic jacket. Please, go and check out her latest sewing craze with pants - she has just nailed the fit to perfection...

Love your top Judith - stunning - beautiful fabric too. I have this pattern but have not progressed to collars and buttons - too scared at the moment! But I hope to get there soon Does Wenzel's sell to the public?
ReplyDeleteive the collars a go, BeaJay. There are plenty of helpful tutorials 'out there' to help. And this actual pattern has a collar and stand that comes together easily.
DeleteAs for the Wenzel fabric, yes it is available to the public via a few stores. They have been wholesalers since 1911. Not sure if they have their own store or not...
Lovely shirt. The contrasting collar and placket look good. Nice kitchen too. It looks already spotless to me so just go sew...

ReplyDeletePS - I have to force myself to do the housework first thing in the morning otherwise it gets forgotten real quick as soon as I start sewing! I'm not the best housekeeper anyway and with the temptation of sewing compared to cleaning, well, the sewing always wins!
Housework, blah!!! I'm currently on 2 weeks school holidays and really had no plans on doing a great deal of housework...but the fairies haven't turned up yet to do it for me...

DeleteMy mother used to say "If you want to sew, let the housework go". Somehow she managed to sew for herself and 6 kids, and the house never looked too bad. Love the shirt, and especially the bright under-collar. I love a contrast lining anytime!

DeleteJudith, great top! I have this pattern, but was curious how it would look when done, as it has no bust darts or anything that I saw. It looks great though! Love your contrasts.

Thanks, Linda, we both seem to be into shirts at the moment! Love your latest white blouse. This McCall's top does have bust darts, which are fairly well camouflaged in my fabric. Housework finished yesterday, sewing today...(insert 'happy dance')...
