I...Oh yes, knitting is a wonderful change of pace! I learned to knit about 13 years ago, and fell so in love with it that I quit sewing for over a decade. (Potential knitters, beware!) Now that I'm back to sewing, I find the two live very nicely with one another. Knitting is more portable, and doable in many settings. Doctor's offices, car ferries, outdoor concerts, airports (do they let you do that any more?), listening to music, audio books, TV... the list goes on.
